I Made A Facebook Page
I made a Facebook page to help boost this site's readership. It wasn't anything new to me; I currently manage a few pages on the site. However, the difference between those pages and this one is that I do not play as active of a role as I had to here. I had to ensure that I kept up to date with my postings and didn't neglect the page, while I also made sure I was not spamming my reader's timelines with irrelevant posts. The posts had to be relevant to the purpose of the Art of College site, and that purpose was to spread art among the college community. So I tried my best to share posts that related to art; painting, spoken word, any form of art got it's day on the Facebook page. I honestly had fun trying to find posts on my own news feed that I thought my viewers would enjoy; it was exciting to share something to the blog's Facebook page and wait to see how my followers reacted. Those who did react put only positive reactions, and that was very reassuring to me. Below I will highlight a few of page's Facebook posts that did well, and a few that may not have done so well. Take a look and see what I did!
This is a recent post that I shared to the page. While a majority of the posts that I put were either sharing a picture of someone's artwork or a sped-up version of someone's drawing, this post I felt would do well because it was something that anyone could do at home. It got one like and about 11 people saw it, which I feel is a success for my page. It's not my most successful post, mind you; but it still did relatively well. I feel like what helped it do well was the factor that virtually anyone can do this at home.

This was a post that did not fair as well as the first one. It only reached about three people and got no likes on it. I think the reason this post did not do as well is because the content of the video was not geared towards everyone. The only people who would really be interested in this technology would be people who do digital art and design regularly. I thought it would be good to share to the page as a peak into the technology that has developed in the art world, but it seems that it was not as successful.

This was the most recent blog post that I put up on the page, and so far it unfortunately hasn't fared well. Granted I have to take into account that this was posted up fairly recently, so not many people have gotten the chance to see it yet. I'm hoping it does somewhat well in the future because the blog post it's linked to talks about a friend of mine who is a gifted photographer and can do wonders with her camera. I found a trend that my blog posts may not do as well as other posts where I simply share other's work. I'm not sure of the reason why yet, but for some reason that's just how the cookie crumbles.

We make a quick jump from one of my not-so-successful posts to my most successful post on the site to date. 108 people reached, 4 likes; it does not seem like a lot to some people but to me it was big. The fact that people who weren't even a part of the class I made this site for had liked this post meant that the viewership was starting to go beyond the class and to the wider world of the web. I believe that this post did so well because people love to see something amazing come from a blank slate, and that's what happened here. This amazing eye (you can see the finished version if you go over to the Facebook page) started out from a sketch and became a realistic eye that makes you think you're looking into an actual person's eye.

This is another pretty successful piece, although nowhere nearly as successful as the last post. This reached about six people, which is still good. I think that the reason for this post being so well-liked is for the same reason the previous post was such a hit; we see something beautiful come from almost nothing. What starts out as a sketch of a rooster turns into a amazing watercolor piece that I'm sure anyone would want hanging in their home.

This was another post that did well in comparison with other posts on the page. It reached about 8 people, and I believe that the reason for its success was because of the intricacy of the work. If you watch the video, you will see that it is a very delicate and fine art that the artist does. He paints gold paint into such tiny patterns that I personally could never do. I loved this video as well as the art that came out of it, and I'm glad to see others enjoyed it as well.

We'll end this off with a video that did fairly well. It garnered 1 like, reached 18 people and even got a comment! That's a win in my book! I loved this piece because of the raw emotion that the performer puts out. It's a sensitive subject, so if you seek out this post be forewarned. I feel like the raw emotion as well as the honesty and blunt wording of the speaker is what helped this post do so well. It's a sensitive subject that not many people can talk about, but for those who sat and watched the whole video, you could easily feel the guy's emotions as he delivered this piece.
